I’m doing a genealogy report and I need to know the physical features that apply…help!?!?!?
I’m British, German, Indian, Italian, and Irish. I was wondering what some of the physical features of the people are like so I can compare how I look to that. I already know some, but I need some help!
Most people who do this are going by stereotypes. The human race is far too complicated and intermixed. There are no pure races, nationalities or ethnicities.
Now my maternal grandmother was Irish. Actually the ancestry of both of my paternal grandparents were.
My grandfather was mostly orange with a little green and my grandmother was mostly green with a little orange. I am the odd ball in appearance among the 3 girls born to my parents in pigmentation and in height but there is one thing my younger sister and I share is we have our paternal grandmother’s nose. It is a nose you see quite frequently among the Gaels. Not very large, has a tendency to turn up with a little knob on the tip. . . Since I have a skin cancer type pigmentation that little knob on the tip of my nose when I was a kid was always red from the sun and when the song “Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer” came out I was accused of being the inspiration for it. Not all Scots and Irish have noses like us but a lot do. You see some upturn noses among Germans but not all Germans have upturn noses. Many Irish have square jaws. One of my paternal uncles definitely did. But not all Irish have square jaws.
On my mother’s side of the family some have rather large noses. Yes, my maternal grandfather was a Jew and he also had some native American in him. But along with the Irish that have the rather small upturn nose with a knob on them tip, some of them have large noses. Many Jews have large noses but not all do, Funny thing many Northern Italians have large noses and actually they share the same Mitochondrial Haplogroup as many Ashkenazi Jews.
Even though I am blue eyed I have been told something about my eyes are Italian, even by other Italians.
There was a marriage by an Irish ancestor back in the 1700s to a woman that was largely Irish, Spanish and Austrian on my paternal grandmother’s side of the family and on my paternal grandfather’s there is a little Taliaferro. One of my father’s half brothers was viewed as Italian by many people. I have a school teacher friend who met another Taliaferro at a teacher’s conference and he told her the Taliaferros in the U.S. are about as Italian as the Cabots. But could something about the look of my eyes be influenced by the Tartars that were always visiting towns throughout Eastern Europe, Poland being one of them. One of my aunts definitely had the Oriental shape. Didn’t see it in my brown eyed mother but when we look at her picture when she was a baby, maybe so.
However, in genealogy we don’t go by appearance in determining ancestry. We strictly go by documents/records. Actually Genealogy and Genetics are not the same thing. If we spent too much time thinking about “looks” we would be thrown off.

A Genealogy of the Ancient Flemings $14.4 A medieval tradition alleges that the various branches of the Fleming family of the British Isles are descended from the three sons of an earl of Flanders. Pitted against this tradition is the more recent allegation, first made no earlier than the eighteenth century, that unrelated families immigrated in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries to the British Isles from Flanders and independently chose Fleming as a surname. What do historical records have to say concerning these two opposing views? In this publication it is asserted that the records are unanimously in favour of ancient tradition and that the modern allegation is nonsense. The traditional "earl of Flanders" was in reality a man named Erkenbald, the son of an exiled Flemish nobleman living in Normandy during the first half of the eleventh century. Erkenbald the Fleming came to England with William the Conqueror in 1066, and through him are the Flemings of the British Isles descended from one of the great noble houses of Flanders. |

British Campaign Medals of the First World War $13.47 Britain has issued medals rewarding war service since at least the early nineteenth century, and increasingly through the period of its imperial expansion prior to 1914, but examples of many of the early types are now scarce. However, few families escaped some involvement with "the Great War" of 1914-18, and many still treasure the medals awarded to their ancestors for wartime service. Today, with a growing interest in British military history and particularly in family history and genealogy, more and more people want to trace their ancestors’ past. This book looks in detail at the origin, types and varieties of the British medals awarded for general war service between 1914 and ’18, and gives advice on researching the awards and their recipients. |

Nietzsche: On the Genealogy of Morality $19.73 Friedrich Nietzsche is one of the most influential thinkers of the past 150 years and On the Genealogy of Morality (1887) is his most important work on ethics and politics. A polemical contribution to moral and political theory, it offers a critique of moral values and traces the historical evolution of concepts such as guilt, conscience, responsibility, law and justice. This is a revised and updated edition of one of the most successful volumes to appear in Cambridge Texts in the History of Political Thought. Keith Ansell-Pearson has modified his introduction to Nietzsche’s classic text, and Carol Diethe has incorporated a number of changes to the translation itself, reflecting the considerable advances in our understanding of Nietzsche in the twelve years since this edition first appeared. In this new guise the Cambridge Texts edition of Nietzsche’s Genealogy should continue to enjoy widespread adoption, at both undergraduate and graduate level. |
